    Mbira Piece Intensives
Mbira Piece Intensives for mbira students include many performances of the same mbira piece, gathered from the entire MBIRA Recordings Library. Listening to these collections helps the non-Shona mbira student to compensate for not having heard the mbira piece for many years before learning it.
Mbira Piece Intensive collections include solo, duet and group performances of one mbira piece, by many different Zimbabwean musicians. Intensive CDs are approximately 80 minutes, with 12 to 16 tracks. The older cassettes are 90 minutes — these are gradually being replaced with CD Intensives, which include a wider variety of musicians.
Listening to these Intensives constantly is necessary for the mbira student to eventually understand the piece well enough to play it in a truly Shona style.
